ST. LOUIS – St. Louis City Police have another homicide on their hands Friday morning after a man was shot and killed overnight in north St. Louis City.
Authorities here told FOX 2 that the victim was shot multiple times and that the investigation is ongoing at this hour. This latest murder comes as we spoke exclusively with St. Louis Police Chief Robert Tracy about the jump in homicides to start the new year.
The latest murder unfolded at Marcus and MLK in north St. Louis in the Kingsway East neighborhood. Police said that the victim was found just outside of a building. Our Nissan Rogue Runner reporter, Nic Lopez, who was on the scene, shared that police were focusing on the entryway and going in and out of the building. The police added that the male victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At this point, police have not released the victim’s age or name. However, authorities, along with a person at the scene, revealed that they believe the victim was an adult.
This latest murder brings the total number of homicides so far this year in the city of St. Louis to 21. Last year, at this time, there were just 11 murders. Chief Robert Tracy says a lack of conflict resolution is contributing to the rise in murders and that none of the murders appear to be random.
“What I am seeing in the first month is that we haven’t seen any connections between any of them,” Chief Tracy explained. “Some are interpersonal; some might be over narcotics; some might be over some situations; I don’t want to compromise the investigation. Basically, almost everybody knows each other.”
Tracy also shared that technology, including ‘Shotspotter,’ which is a gunshot detection system, is helping police in their investigations. Shotspotter can help police link different shooting incidents. At this point, though, there are no suspects in this latest murder. Locals are urged to call the police if they have any information.
