Three arrested for Clayton car thefts

CLAYTON, Mo. – Police have arrested three individuals for involvement in thefts from unlocked vehicles.

The incident occurred in the Clayshire neighborhood near Clayton Road and S. Brentwood Boulevard around 11 p.m. Tuesday night. A nearby resident reported the suspicious activity to police.

When the suspects saw police arrive, they fled the scene on foot before being caught after a short pursuit.

According to police, the suspects’ vehicle had been stolen prior to the Clayshire neighborhood incident. In addition, more stolen property was found that belonged to residents of both St. Louis and Clayton.

“We commend the resident who quickly called 911 upon recognizing criminal activity. By not intervening, he avoided putting himself in unnecessary danger. His wise decision-making also allowed our officers to effectively handle the situation,” Clayton Police said.

Officials say that Clayton has had a 39% decrease in car thefts compared to this time last year but the issue remains a concern. They recommend valuables be brought inside and to ensure keys are removed from vehicles.
