Suspect tied to carjackings via ‘Rugrats’ sweatshirt: Police

ST. LOUIS – An East St. Louis, Illinois, man was tied to multiple armed carjackings because he wore the same sweatshirt and targeted victims at one location in Downtown St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the crimes took place at the BP gas station in the 900 block of South Broadway on Oct. 22, Nov. 5, twice on Nov. 6, and Nov. 12, 2023.

In each of the crimes, a man displayed a firearm and stole four vehicles. However, he was unsuccessful in stealing a vehicle in one of the November 6 incidents.

Investigators noted the man wore the same blue sweatshirt featuring the character Chuckie from the “Rugrats” cartoon.

East St. Louis police contacted St. Louis authorities and identified Antwoine K. Williams as a possible suspect. Investigators claim they developed enough evidence to warrant a search of Williams’ residence. Police found a sweatshirt in the home matching the one worn in the robberies.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Williams with four counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree attempted robbery. He remains jailed without bond.
