St. Louis homeowners take legal action against squatters

Homeowners in St. Louis are suing the city, along with two squatters identified as Sudanese refugees, who have been living in front of their house for over three years. Despite numerous complaints to city officials, the makeshift shelter constructed by the refugees has caused deteriorating conditions, including sanitation issues and safety hazards.

The lawsuit invokes nuisance laws, citing the city’s historical action against similar nuisances, such as the removal of tents from City Hall before a visit by Vice President Kamala Harris. The homeowners’ attorney hopes the lawsuit will compel the city to take action. The refugees have consistently refused assistance from city agencies and community partners, according to a statement from a city spokesperson. #shorts
