ST. LOUIS – Crews from the St. Louis Fire Department and the American Red Cross spent several hours Saturday installing new smoke alarms in anticipation of the major time change.
Volunteers at a fire house in the city supplied teams with brand new smoke alarms. Crews have installed an estimated 1,000 smoke alarms at various locations all over the city.
St. Louis Fire Department captain Leon Whitener says it’s imperative to install these alarms, especially after recent fires have damaged so many St. Louis lives.
“We want to put forth a good effort to make sure that houses in the city of St. Louis are protected,” said Whitener. “We’ve been doing this for a number of years now, and we are still coming across homes that do not have smoke alarms.”
If your smoke alarms are older than 10 years, they should be replaced.
