ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis public school program that trains students to become EMTs is receiving high marks. Demonya Gaston, a graduate of Gateway STEM High School, is the first student to complete the program.
Gaston earned her emergency medical technician (EMT) license before receiving her high school diploma. She now works full-time as an EMT for the city of St. Louis. Yesterday, Gaston worked alongside her EMT instructor, Mark Fantroy, who is also a paramedic with the St. Louis Fire Department. Fantroy expressed immense pride in Gaston’s achievements and encourages other students to follow in her footsteps.
The EMT program at Gateway STEM High School is open to high school students in St. Louis City and County. Students can earn an EMT license and secure a job after graduation.
