Small alligator spotted in Bonne Terre Lake



BONNE TERRE, Mo. – Local and state authorities have been made aware of an alligator sighting at Bonne Terre Lake.

The lake is a public area and attracts frequent visitors, according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. There is also a walking path around the edge of the lake.

The alligator was said to be approximately 20 inches long and was not aggressive.

The DNR alerted the Bonne Terre Police Department to the sighting.

If you see the alligator, do not approach or attempt to wrangle the reptile. You’re asked to call St. Francois County Joint Communications at 573-431-3131 and report the sighting.
