Rogers Middle School featured in backyard tour – St. Louis Call Newspapers

Rogers Middle School in the Affton School District has been chosen to be a part of the 2024 St. Louis Regional Sustainable Backyard Tour on Sunday, June 30 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“Many of your kids have been involved with the garden over the last 13 years and should be very proud of the part they played in making Rogers more sustainable,” Kathy Beezley, retired RMS school nurse stated on the district’s Facebook page. “We would love to see any current or past RMS Garden Club members. We will also be selling the luffa, lavender sachets, handmade soaps and pepper flakes the kids made this year.”

The St. Louis Regional Sustainable Backyard tour features nearly 60 yards from around the area, including two other South County locations: 921 Ardeth Court in Oakville and 771 Pardella Avenue in Lemay. It is free and self-guided with no starting point, no tickets and no rain date. Animals of any kind – except service animals – will not be allowed in any of the yards.

Though tickets are not required, visitors are asked to register on the organization’s website, https://sustainablebackyard.org/. Registering not only allows those in charge to assess the number of people attending, but also puts visitors into a drawing for two prizes: a bundle of children’s books on nature and the environment, or a metal Sustainable Backyard outdoor yard sign. The winning numbers will be generated based on the registration form – which automatically dates and numbers all registrants – and winners will be notified after the tour concludes.
