Red flag warning signals elevated fire danger in western areas today

ST. LOUIS — There’s a red flag warning for western portions of the area today from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. This does not include St. Louis County but we still have elevated fire danger outside of the warning.

Expect gusty southeasterly winds today but milder temperatures, climbing to around 60. We’ll see plenty of clouds today and while much of the day will be mostly cloudy, some sunshine will mix in, especially this afternoon.

A few spot showers are possible, beginning overnight into early Monday morning as our next system moves into our region. Rain chances increase and become more widespread through the day on Monday as the area of rain progresses eastward.

There’s a good chance rain in the metro won’t begin until midday but points west will see rain move in by mid-morning. This rain has the potential to be beneficial to our region, with amounts in the 1″ to 1.5″ range possible.

Highs on Monday will once again be near 60 and it’ll be very windy, with gusts reaching upwards of 40 mph.

Behind this system, we have a dry forecast until at least Thursday. Temperatures will take a dip into the 50s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will warm to the 60s by Thursday and the 70s by Friday.
