Recent rains may benefit Missouri morel hunters

ST. LOUIS — This weekend is looking good to go morel mushroom hunting in the Show Me State. Missouri Morel Hunting says that there has been some impressive early season progress. Recent rains and soil temperatures may benefit hunters looking to find the elusive fungus this weekend.

A slight dip in temperatures this weekend might delay soil from drying too quickly, thanks to the recent rainfall. Ron, the owner of the Facebook page, says he remains optimistic about continued growth and fruiting despite the mild temperatures.

Ya’ll are absolutely killing it! I can’t recall the map filling up this fast, nor the progression line moving north this quickly into the season. This early season hasn’t caught you sleeping, that’s for sure. My hat’s off to you! Nice job!

My fingers are crossed that each of our regions received the much-needed rain that came through over the past two or three days. I hope everyone is safe as well, as I hear the storms were pretty bad in certain areas,” states Ron.

Saturday will be the warmer of the weekend days with sunshine and highs in the upper 60s. Another cold front comes through dry late Saturday and this sets us up for a cooler Sunday with highs in the low 50s, gusty winds, and mostly sunny skies.
