Police bust illegal fireworks operation in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says it busted an illegal fireworks operation on the Fourth of July in north St. Louis.

Police received a tip on July 4 about a storefront in the Baden neighborhood selling illegal fireworks.

Once they arrived at the scene in the 8900 block of Riverview Drive, they uncovered a slew of illegal fireworks and a gun, according to SLMPD.

Police say the person spearheading the operation was identified and arrested, and investigators seized the illegal fireworks.

This case is being reviewed by the SLMPD warrant office to decide on whether the accused person faces criminal charges.

According to St. Louis City ordinances, it is illegal to possess, store, sell, transfer or use fireworks within city limits. Violations could mean up to 90 days in jail or $500 in fines.
