One dead, five injured in downtown St. Louis shooting

ST. LOUIS — One man is dead, and at least five other people have been shot in downtown St. Louis. The shooting occurred at 10th and Market Street around 2:30 a.m. on June 23. A spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department held a news conference less than 30 minutes ago, stating that officers in district four were already on a call in the downtown area when they heard multiple gunshots.

When they arrived, they found several people who had been shot. More shooting victims then began arriving at the hospital. The deceased man is believed to be 26 years old, and another victim is in critical condition.

Most of the victims are in their early 20s. Homicide detectives believe a fight broke out among a group of girls, which escalated when others got involved, resulting in gunfire. At least one gun has been recovered from the scene, but it is unclear if that gun was used in the shooting.

The Director of Public Affairs added that one officer was assaulted during the incident. The person believed to be responsible for the assault has been taken into custody and will be charged with assault on a police officer.

If you have any information regarding this shooting, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at (866) 371-8477.
