New details revealed in collision that killed 12-year-old

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – There has been new information released regarding the Hazelwood head-on collision that killed 12-year-old Travis Wolfe on Dec. 20, the night before his birthday.

“I saw two vehicles with heavy damage to both front ends. Airbags deployed on multiple vehicles,” Sgt. Scott Schnurbusch from the Hazelwood Police Department said.

Six people were rushed to the hospital, according to Schnurbusch, including Travis, his parents, and a woman with her two kids.

Travis was sent to Children’s Hospital and put on life support. His parents were taken to Mercy Hospital with broken wrists, broken ribs, a broken sternum, and more.

Travis didn’t wake up; he passed away March 6.

Court documents show Endrina Bracho as the driver of the car that hit the Wolfe family.

Bracho is facing involuntary manslaughter in the first degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of endangering a child in the first degree, and one count of operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Court documents also said “the defendant is here illegally from Venezuela.”

“That did not play a part in our investigation. It was just difficult identifying all parties involved because we didn’t have documentation or identifications in the vehicle to try to figure out who the two juveniles and the suspect were,” Schnurbusch said.

Police said Brancho was driving in the wrong lane when she hit the Jeep the Wolfe’s were in. The investigation involves eyewitnesses and reconstruction of the crash.

Bracho is currently in custody and awaiting trial. She’s being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond, with a bond reduction hearing set for April 8.

Hazelwood police hope Bracho’s arrest will bring some closure to Travis’ family.

“1,700 feet is quite a big distance to travel at over 70 miles an hour on a 40-mile posted road. That’s a long way to travel in the wrong direction and not realize,” Schnurbusch said.

The children of Brancho, who were in the car with her the night of the crash, are now in the care of their father.
