Missouri AG files lawsuit against Planned Parenthood over out-of-state abortions on minors

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has filed a lawsuit against Planned Parenthood’s Great Plains branch, accusing it of trafficking minors across state lines for abortions.

Bailey is pushing for a court order to block Planned Parenthood’s Great Plains locations from offering abortions to out-of-state minors.

The lawsuit claims, based on a video and other evidence, that minors are removed from schools using doctors’ notes, have an abortion performed in the state of Kansas, then return across state lines. Bailey’s lawsuit contends this is happening without parental consent and driven by Planned Parenthood.

“This is the beginning of the end for Planned Parenthood in the State of Missouri. What they conceal and conspire to do in the dark of night has now been uncovered. I am filing suit to ensure it never happens again,” said Bailey. “As a father who held my daughter in my arms for the single hour of her life before she died, I know firsthand how important it is to protect life. Our children are the future. It is time to eradicate Planned Parenthood once and for all to end this pattern of abhorrent, unethical, and illegal behavior.”

The lawsuit cites a Missouri statute that makes it illegal “to intentionally cause, aid, or assist a minor to obtain an abortion without parental consent in another state.”

Bailey also links Planned Parenthood to several other alleged violations, including a half-decade of health-code violations that led to Planned Parenthood’s facility in Columbia shutting down in 2018. He also claims there was a 15-year period in which the organization failed to comply with state laws in filing reports when women experienced medical complications from abortions.

Bailey’s Office says further investigation into Planned Parenthood is ongoing.

FOX 2 has reached out to Planned Parenthood’s Great Plains branch for comment, but we have yet to hear back as of the time of this story’s initial publication.
