Man arrested near Gateway Arch for allegedly killing his brothers

ST. LOUIS — A man wanted for the deaths of his two brothers in Illinois has been arrested near the Gateway Arch. St. Louis Metropolitan Police say they were alerted by the National Park Service that 54-year-old Jeffrey Austwick might be near the arch grounds. Officers used surveillance cameras to locate and arrest him on Friday.

Police say the suspect had a gun on him at the time of his arrest.

Austwick is charged with two counts of murder in Lake County, Illinois. Investigators report that he had been living in Highland Park with his mother, who recently died. Last week, his two brothers came to the house to discuss the property. That’s when police say Austwick shot and killed them, then set the house on fire.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family of his brother John, who was 60 and leaves behind a wife and two daughters. His older brother, Marc, was 63.
