Jefferson County man charged in St. Louis burglaries



ST. LOUIS – A suspected serial burglar from Jefferson County is in custody for break-ins in St. Louis City over the past four months.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Gage Luttman, 36, with five counts of second-degree burglary, three counts of stealing – $750 or more, two counts of first-degree property damage, one count of second-degree property, two counts of first-degree trespassing, and one count of stealing a motor vehicle. Luttman remains jailed without bond and prosecutors anticipate filing more charges.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the break-ins took place on January 26, March 24, and April 1.

The first burglary happened at a home in the 7200 block of Esplanade Street, in the Ellendale neighborhood. Police claim Luttman destroyed a door to enter the residence and stole over $750 in jewelry. The crime was captured on surveillance video and some of the jewelry was later recovered at Luttman’s residence.

The March burglary occurred at the Metro Electric Supply on Hoffman Avenue, also located in Ellendale. Police claim Luttman destroyed a wall to get into the business. He stole more than $750 worth of copper. The theft was also captured on surveillance video.

Police claim Luttman broke into a business in the 2700 block of Brannon Avenue, in the Southwest Garden neighborhood, and stole a GMC Sierra and more than $750 worth of tools. Some of the tools were later found at Luttman’s home. He was recorded on video at the scene.

Police and prosecutors said Luttman was already on probation in several pending cases and had been identified as the primary suspect in 25 other burglaries.
