Incarnate Word coach suffers medical emergency after state basketball game

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Dan Rolfes, a basketball coach and athletic director for St. Louis-based high school Incarnate Word Academy, suffered a medical emergency Friday after leaving a state basketball tournament game.

The IWA Athletics Facebook page shared of the situation late Friday evening. The initial post says, “Coach Rolfes is surrounded by immediate family and is receiving excellent care.”

IWA Athletics shared an update on Saturday and asked for continued prayers for Rolfes and his family. “IWA and the Rolfes family thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers for our beloved coach Rolfes.”

After a victory in the semifinals round Friday, Incarnate Word will play its state championship game against Springfield-based Kickapoo High School around 6 p.m. Saturday at Mizzou Arena.

Rolfes has served as Incarnate Word’s girl’s basketball coach since 2000, helping the team to 12 state championships and a streak of 124 consecutive wins, according to the USA Basketball Organization.
