Historic St. Louis presents ‘Landscapes of Summertime Past’ garden and house tour – St. Louis Call Newspapers

Historic St. Louis is linking together 20 historical sites and museums to present “Landscapes of Summertime Past,” a summer garden and house tour in June.

The one-day open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at various historic sites around the region, including the Historic Sappington House, 1015 Sappington Road, and the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road.

Admission will be $5 at the Sappington House, where Anne Williams will recite Shakespearean sonnets in the morning, and Tom Poelker will portray Benjamin Franklin in the afternoon. Families can picnic on the grounds and a free seed exchange will be offered, along with plants for sale. Plein air artists will be sketching in the park and refreshments will be available.

Visitors at Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site can watch a 22-minute film, go on ranger-led tours of Grant’s White Haven estate and visit the museum dedicated to Grant’s life. There will also be a self-guided tour of the rain garden and various activities for children. All activities are free, and no reservations are required.
