Green Park passes budget, will look at more street upgrades – St. Louis Call Newspapers
The Green Park Board of Aldermen passed the city’s 2022 budget Dec. 20.
City Administrator James Mello said the city has largely been unaffected by COVID financially, and the budget has remained in a healthy state.
Big ticket expenditures include $324,000 for the city’s police contract, a $12,000 increase in lighting costs due to new street lights, an increase in wages as the city seeks a code enforcement officer and a large increase in street replacement costs.
The city spent $350,000 on street replacements in 2021 for Mueller and Green Park Roads, but the costs for 2022 are expected to be between $850,000 and $1 million. Mello said the city decided to focus on the small replacement last year due to uncertainty from COVID. The large difference in possible costs is also an effect of COVID.
The city is also looking into a large printer/scanner for architecture plans and improvements to the community room, which were halted by COVID in the past.
The new scanning and printing equipment will help the city digitize its internal processes. Previously, Mello said a high end scanner/printer will cost the city about $10,000, and a new printer and scanner will make making digital copies easier, especially for large site plans.
