Festus spends $169K on home to turn into parking lot

FESTUS, Mo. – Festus city officials recently spent $169,000 to purchase a home next to its city hall and police station, which will be knocked down to make way for a parking lot.

The Festus City Council unanimously voted on February 26 to buy the property located at 657 W. Main St. and closed on the deal on March 26, according to a Leader Publications report.

The 1,713-square-foot home located on the property, which was built in 1936, will be demolished.

Officials acted on the opportunity to buy the property with the intention of expanding the parking lot for their city hall and police station, City Administrator Greg Camp told Leader Publications.

It is not yet known how many parking spaces the lot will provide.
