Cloudy skies and moderate rainfall across the region

ST. LOUIS — We have a widespread area of light to moderate rainfall that is very slowly moving eastward this morning. We also have extensive cloud cover ahead of that approaching rain. This means continuing cloudy skies for much of the day, with that rain slowly pushing east across the region as it continues to dissipate. With gusty winds, the highs will climb to the upper 70s.

There is a conditional threat of a few strong storms later today but the cloud cover and rain earlier in the day should lower that threat. Additional showers and storms will once again develop to our west, ahead of a cold front late this afternoon. Those will move east into our area by late evening. A few of these storms could become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts being the main concern.

Tomorrow, the front stalls over our area, so we’ll keep showers and thundershowers in the forecast across southeast Missouri and southwestern Illinois for Monday. Temperatures will hold in the mid-70s. By Tuesday, the front will lift north, so we’ll see a break in rain chances with sunshine and highs near 80.
