City considers eliminating comptroller position, residents furious

ST. LOUIS – A monumental change may be coming to the way the City of St. Louis does business.

Monday night, the St. Louis Charter Commission is discussing a plan to eliminate the city’s chief financial officer, known as the comptroller. It’s all for the goal of making city government more efficient.

Current and former city employees have voiced their opinions publicly, criticizing Comptroller Darlene Green.

The city is hoping to replace the office with a finance department, giving the mayor and board of aldermen more power and streamlining city government.
