ST. LOUIS – A convicted carjacker still facing charges in St. Louis City was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday to 27 years.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said James Blakemore III, 37, robbed a man at gunpoint on Sept. 16, 2020, at the Convention Center MetroLink Station in downtown.
The victim was napping in his company truck when Blakemore approached him, opened the driver’s side door, and demanded the driver hand over his cash, phone, and keys.
Police tracked the stolen truck through GPS. When police located the truck, Blakemore ran from the vehicle but left behind a backpack with a pistol and personal identifiers.
A jury convicted Blakemore in November 2023 of carjacking, possessing and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Blakemore is facing several charges in St. Louis Circuit Court for multiple robberies committed over the summer of 2020.
