Bel-Ridge man admits to armed carjacking in federal court

ST. LOUIS – A Bel-Ridge man appeared in U.S. District Court on Thursday and admitted committing an armed carjacking in St. Louis last year.

Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Ahdaejay Britton, 19, and a juvenile accomplice stole a Mazda 3 from a parking garage in the 3800 block of Lindell Boulevard during the middle of the day on May 8, 2023.

Britton told the court that he and his accomplice saw the victim park his car and then followed him down a stairwell, where they tackled him from behind and demanded his car keys, wallet, and phone.

Police observed the stolen Mazda in the 10000 block of New Halls Ferry Road and saw the juvenile in the driver’s seat. Britton was at a nearby business. Police located a .45 caliber pistol and the victim’s phone inside the Mazda.

Britton pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of possession and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Britton will be sentenced on November 14. He faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the carjacking charge, and anywhere from seven years to life imprisonment for the firearm charge. The sentences would run consecutively.
