Baby dies, five others hurt in rural Missouri crash



MARION COUNTY, Mo. – A one-year-old baby died, and five others are hurt after a serious crash Thursday in Marion County.

Three other juveniles between the ages of 2 and 5 were also involved in the crash, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

MSHP reports that a 28-year-old driver from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was driving four juveniles, all from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in addition a 48-year-old woman from East St. Louis, Illinois.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on June 27, on US 61, one mile north of Palmyra. The driver ran off the road, hit an embankment, overturned, and came to rest in the median, according to the crash report.

Investigators say no one in the car was using a safety device. The juvenile, who was one year old, was declared dead at the scene. All but the East St. Louis woman were taken to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. The 48-year-old woman was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

MSHP also reports the driver did not have any insurance.

MSHP Troop B in northern Missouri is investigating the crash.
