NEW FLORENCE, Mo. — The town of New Florence is set to receive a new solar facility as part of Ameren Missouri’s Community Solar Program. This site will work with the existing Montgomery Community Solar Center, which will continue to operate, and will help meet the demand from over 4,700 customers statewide seeking to expand their use of renewable energy.
The Missouri Public Service Commission still needs to approve the new facility. If approved, construction could begin as early as spring 2025, with the facility expected to serve customers by 2026.
This will be the third community solar center built by Ameren Missouri since the program’s start. The first building that is located at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, began service in 2019, followed by the Montgomery facility in 2022.
The New Florence project is part of Ameren’s statewide plan to add 2,800 MW of solar energy by 2030. The announcement on June 4th follows Ameren Missouri’s approval for its largest solar investment to date, which includes building or acquiring solar projects capable of powering approximately 73,000 homes. These new facilities are scheduled to go into service in 2025 and 2026.
According to a press release, all solar projects contribute to Ameren’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. This target aligns with the Paris Agreement, to help reduce climate change.
